Round 1 Inter A Kirwan League
We are up and running in the Kirwan League. This year unfortunately we only have six teams -
two from Malahide and St Gabriel’s and one from Vernon and St Anthony’s. We will have five
rounds with one match per month from December to April. You may arrange to play your match
on any date, provided you get your game played before the end date for the round. The
DNR are running seven facilitated nights up to the end of April where we will supply a
T ournament Director who will look after the games and help you with the scoring and also bring
predealt boards. The dates of the remaining facilitated nights are as follows:
If you wish to avail of the facilitated game facility, please let me know.
As you all know Round 1 matches were scheduled to be completed by 13th December and they
duly were. While you are aware of how your individual matches went, here are the full set of
results for Round 1
You will see from the above results that we are using the 24 Board Continuous Scale rather than
the 24 Board Discrete Scale to convert from IMPS to VPS. For instance in Vernon’s match with
St Gabriel’s 2 (I got a free transfer from Vernon to St Gabriel’s and based upon my performance
in the match, I can understand why that happened), the result above shows that Vernon won by
15.69 to 4.31 VP’s. However, if we had used the Discrete Scale, Vernon would have won by 16
to 4 VP’s. While this is a minor difference, at the end of the league it could decide who is first
and who is second. Anyhow after all that, the League looks like this
The next round of matches is set out below and they are scheduled to be completed by 31st
January. The clubs may choose to play on the DNR Facilitated Games night on the 16th
January in St Paul’s if they so wish.
Good luck to you all in the next round
