Round 7 Novice Kirwan League
Shout it from the rooftops. GLASNEVIN WIN NOVICE KIRWAN LEAGUE and they didn’t have
to play a card or make a bid in the final round.

Malahide needed to beat Clontarf by more than 28 IMP’s in order to overtake Glasnevin. But it
was not to be. They did win by 17 IMP’s and while they had the same number of wins as
Glanevin and in fact had a big win over Glasnevin in the first round, this still left them nearly 2
VP’s behind Glasnevin to finish in 2nd place. One more result going their way in the 120 boards
played over the duration of the league and the League would have been their’s.
Louise McKenna’s Vernon team had a slightly bigger challenge, needing to beat the other
Vernon team by 33 IMP’s. Would Frank’s team take one for the club, and conspire to give the
win to Louise’s team? No way - this was the battle for bragging rights and the glory of the club
be damned. After the 1st Session, Louise’s team were winning by 13 IMP’s and were well on
their way to achieve their goal. They were still ahead by this amount when it came to the last 3
boards, but then the wheels came off the bus with Frank’s team picking up 28 IMP’s to win the
match by 15 IMP’s. While Frank’s team have the bragging rights for winning the match, Louise’s
team finished just ahead of them in 3rd place, so they will have to fight over the bragging rights.
The final match was that between Raheny and Donabate. Would Donabate break their duck?
Would Raheny hold them off? After the 1st Session Donabate were just ahead by 4 IMP’s, but in
the 2nd Session, Raheny found their mojo and put up a huge score to win by 53 IMP’s giving
them an 18.91 to 1.09 VP win, which was just enough to move them into 5th place ahead of
Clontarf.Thank you all for participating and making my job easy. I hope to see you at the dinner and prize
giving in Sutton Golf Club. And if I don’t see you then, I hope I will see you in next
year’s Kirwan League. If you enjoyed the competition, please spread the word. It would be great
to have 10 teams next year.
