Round 4 Inter A Kirwan League
Here are the full set of results and the League Table at the end of Round 4

Round 4 done and dusted and it is still all to play for in Round 5 where any one of 5 teams could
take the laurels.
The top match of the round was that between Vernon and Donat’s Malahide team. Vernon had
home advantage. This meant the match was played in an echoing class room in St Paul’s where
everybody sat shivering on hard chairs and there wasn’t a smell of a cup of tea. (Schools use
this type of arrangement to keep their pupils awake!). This is done on purpose to make the
visiting team uncomfortable (Think closing the stadium roof in Cardiff when Ireland play rugby
there). Anyhow the strategy worked for Vernon as they won the match by 13.53 to 6.47 VP’s.
While Vernon did move ahead of Malahide in the league, they were unable to claim top spot.
This honour went to Bernie Dowling’s St Gabriel’s team who picked up 18.75 VP’s when they
played St Anthony’s
I got to play in the last match where we lost to Doris Bruderlin’s Malahide team by 8.1 VP’s to
11.9. We got to sit on soft chairs in an actual bridge room where North, South, East and West
positions are rigidly adhered to and we were plied with tea and biscuits to such an extent that
we began to fall asleep and managed to renegue on two boards and handed the win to
Malahide. This meant that on our odyssey home in my car (I was Ulysses) our lot was that of the
losing team as we poured over all the “What if’s”
.
All these results though make for a very exciting last round with two local derbies with the
Malahide teams taking on each other and the St Gabriel’s teams taking on each other and
Vernon playing St Anthony’s. I’m just going to put this out there - I AM NOT OPEN TO BRIBES.
Good luck to you all and enjoy the last round.
Dan.
