Round 5 Novice Kirwan League
Here are the full set of results and the League Table at the end of Round 5
There was a change in the top 3 with Glasnevin and Malahide both winning their matches and
leapfrogging Louise McKenna’s Vernon team who had a bye in this round.
Malahide were playing Frank Clarke’s Vernon team and were behind by 15 IMP’s after the 1st
session, but they had a great 2nd session and eventually won by 8 IMP’s and have now moved
into 2nd place
Glasnevin had a big win over Donabate which catapulted them into 1st place where they now
lead by 8.5 VP’s. This may not be enough to keep them there as Malahide have a match in
hand.
In the 3rd match of the round, Clontarf beat Raheny.
Grand slams could have been bid and made on Board 7 and Board 12. Malahide’s Phillip
Dempsey and Vernon’s Jackie Dawson bid 6NT and made 6NT + 1 and they were playing
against each other. It is really important to bid slams when they are there. You should review the
boards with your partner to see how you might have got into the correct contract.
The 6th round games are as follows and must be complete by Friday 11th April.
We will have a DNR facilitated session on Thursday 10th April at 19.00 in Malahide Bridge Club,
if any of you would like to avail of this.
